2027: Egejurum Declares Interest in Okigwe North Reps Seat
Dr. Emmanuel Ejeguru, a legal practitioner, has expressed his intention to contest for the House of Representatives seat for Okigwe North Federal Constituency of Imo State in the upcoming 2027 elections.
Egejurum, who is widely recognized as Bambas will be contesting under the banner of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
He made his intention known on Wednesday, March 18, 2026 during an interaction with journalists in Owerri, the capital of Imo State.
He articulated that he has fulfilled his obligations and emphasized that it is now an opportune moment for him to contribute towards advancing the interests of the people by being an active player in the political arena.
“I have fulfilled my obligations. I have ‘carried bag’. I have assessed what is required, and now is the time to declare my candidacy,” Dr. Egejurum stated.
Regarding the zoning arrangement for the seat, he noted that it is the turn of the Isiala Mbano Council Area to produce the representative for the federal constituency.
The federal constituency consists of Okigwe, Onuimo and Isiala Mbano Local Government Areas.
Currently, Honorable Miriam Onuoha, also from the Isiala Mbano Council Area, occupies the seat.
Dr. Egejurum mentioned that Honorable Onuoha assumed the position after all three councils had completed their two terms of eight years each.
He emphasized that, should he be successful in the 2027 election, he might refrain from seeking re-election until it is the turn of his council area to produce a representative for the constituency.
Dr. Egejurum is relying on his faith in God and the sound judgment of the people to support his bid to represent the constituency at the National Assembly.
He asserted that any plan to transform Nigeria into a one-party state is destined to fail.
Dr. Egejurum is a policy strategist, security expert, diplomat and development advocate.
He is currently serving as the Speaker of the African Union Agenda 2063 Ambassadorial Assembly, playing a strategic role in advancing Africa’s long term development blueprint.
His work across the continent is focused on youth empowerment, mental health awareness, industrial growth, security and the strengthening of African unity.
He holds LL.B, B.L. LL.M, a Master’s degree in Criminology and. Ph.D in Law.
