Thugs Disrupt NDC Meeting, Inflict Injuries On Members In Imo
Hoodlums said to be hired thugs of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday caused commotion that disrupted a meeting of the rival Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) held in Owerri Imo State.
The thugs led by an individual known by the moniker Tapey reportedly inflicted bodily injuries on members of the NDC and destroyed furniture and gadgets used at the meeting
They broke heads, punctured legs and inflicted lacerations on hands and faces of attendees at the meeting.
They also reportedly destroyed and vandalized over 700 plastic chairs, and public address gadgets used at the meeting.
The meeting which held at Umuoyima Youth Hall had some candidates of the NDC in attendance.
The candidates included Hon Uche Onyeagucha, for Owerri Zone Senate Seat; Hon Charles Agoh (also known as Akataka) for House of Representatives Owerri Federal Constituency and Hon Kema Nze, for Imo State House of Assembly, Owerri Municipal.
Speaking with reporters, Hon Kema Nze condemned the attack, cautioning politicians to desist from playing politics of bitterness.
Concerns have been expressed as to whether violence will mark this year’s politicking in the state.
