Six Cops Land In Police Net For Assaulting Imo Man
The Imo State Police Command has announced that it has identified and detained six of its officers who were captured in a viral video assaulting a young man in Uzoagba, Ikeduru Local Government Area of the state.
The command provided the names of the officers as Inspector Ugochukwu Ibe, Inspector Nwachi Chimezie, Sergeant Ugoezuhu Austin, Corporal Michael Obi, Corporal Ebuka Onwuegbu, and Corporal Amos Sunny.
In a statement issued by its spokesperson, Deputy Superintendent of Police Henry Okoye, the command revealed that a comprehensive investigation has been initiated to ascertain the full circumstances surrounding the misconduct of the officers.
It further stated that the officers are currently in custody and that disciplinary procedures have been initiated in accordance with the existing regulations of the Nigeria Police Force.
The command reiterated its zero-tolerance policy towards police misconduct, unprofessional behavior, and any infringement of citizens’ rights.
According to the command, the actions of the officers, as depicted in the video, are inconsistent with the values, ethics, and professional standards of the Nigeria Police Force.
The command assured the public that the matter will be addressed thoroughly, transparently, and in line with established procedures.
It promised to inform the public of the investigation’s outcome in due course.
