Police Foil Armed Robbery Attempt, Apprehend Suspect
Operatives of the Imo State Police Command successfully thwarted an armed robbery attempt at Works Layout, Owerri, Imo State, on Monday, July 13, 2026.
The operatives apprehended a suspect and recovered a locally fabricated pistol during the foiled attack.
According to a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, Deputy Superintendent of Police Henry Okoye, the timely intervention was made possible due to credible information provided by vigilant residents.
Okoye stated that the police operatives, under the leadership of the Divisional Police Officer for Orji, collaborated with military personnel and local vigilante members to conduct a thorough search of the area, resulting in the arrest of Onyegbulam Lucky Boy, a resident of Umuodu, Mbieri, but hails from Umunoha in Mbaitoli Local Government Area.
Additionally, Okoye disclosed that Lucky Boy’s accomplice, identified as Chijioke, fled upon noticing the security team.
He further noted, “Preliminary investigations suggest that the suspects had allegedly organized to rob unsuspecting residents prior to the disruption of their operation. A locally fabricated pistol, believed to have been intended for use in the crime, was recovered, and the arrested suspect remains in custody. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect and other members of the gang.”
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Audu Garba Bosso, commended the professionalism exhibited by the operatives, as well as the support from the military, local vigilante members, and residents, whose timely information contributed significantly to the success of the operation.
He has instructed that the investigation be concluded expeditiously and that all individuals connected to the criminal conspiracy be brought to justice.
The Command assures residents that intelligence-led operations and strategic security partnerships will persist throughout the State.
