Police Arrest Two Suspected Armed Robbers In Imo
The Imo State Police Command has announced the apprehension of two individuals suspected of armed robbery, along with the recovery of a pistol and seven rounds of live ammunition.
Henry Okoye, the spokesperson for the command, issued a statement on Thursday detailing the incident.
The suspects allegedly attempted to steal a gold chain from a man but were captured after attempting to flee the scene.
The suspects have been identified as Solomon Ejekwe, aged 29, from Ubaha Orodo in Mbaitoli Local Government Area, and Emeka Charles, aged 35, from Umuopara Ngugo in Ikeduru Local Government Area.
“The arrest was made following a distress call from members of the public reporting an armed robbery at Aladinma, Owerri.
Acting swiftly on the information received, police operatives mobilized to the location and successfully apprehended the suspects,” the statement reads.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim was engaged in washing his car at a facility located at Mangrove, Aladinma, when the suspects approached him, forcibly took his gold chain at gunpoint, and escaped the scene on a motorcycle.
The victim, however, pursued the suspects in his vehicle and managed to knock them down. Subsequently, they were subdued and assaulted by an angry crowd before police operatives arrived at the scene and took them into custody.”
Okoye further stated that the suspects were taken to the police medical centre for treatment and would face the appropriate criminal charges in due course.
Audu Bosso, the Commissioner of Police in the state, praised the “prompt response” of the operatives and the cooperation of the public.
He also cautioned residents against engaging in mob action and delivering jungle justice, urging the public to allow the legal process to unfold.
