Imo APP Set For Congresses As NWC Appoints Electoral Committee
The Action Peoples Party (APP) has officially established a four-member Electoral Committee to supervise its upcoming congresses in Imo State, indicating heightened preparations for the 2027 general elections.
In an appointment letter dated Monday, April 20, 2026, addressed to the Imo State Chairman, the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party announced the formation of the panel just 48 hours prior to the commencement of the congresses, scheduled from Tuesday, April 22, through Sunday, April 26, 2026, at the ward, local government, and state levels.
The committee is tasked with conducting a credible, transparent, and inclusive process to elect new party executives across the state, thereby enhancing the APP’s grassroots structures in anticipation of the upcoming elections.
The panel is chaired by Okenze Blyden Amajirionwu, a former member of the Imo State House of Assembly who represented the Ngor Okpala Constituency.
Other members of the electoral panel include Hon. Michael Crown Njoku, Chief Nwaodu Ezenwa C., and Hon. Chinaka Ikechukwu C.
The letter, signed by the National Chairman, Barr. Uchenna Nnadi, and National Secretary, Abu Ibrahim Bossan, instructed the Imo State Chapter to provide the committee members with all necessary support and cooperation to enable them to fulfill their duties effectively.
This latest development follows the party’s vigorous membership registration and mobilization initiative across the 305 wards in Imo State.
It also comes after the dissolution of the previous state executive and the appointment of an interim caretaker committee led by Hon. Ernest Njesi as Interim Chairman.
Party leaders believe that the congresses will reinforce the APP’s expanding presence in the state and result in a unified, people-oriented leadership capable of offering Ndi Imo a credible alternative platform in 2027.
Stakeholders have welcomed the appointment of the electoral panel, viewing it as a clear demonstration of the NWC’s commitment to internal democracy and its determination to reposition the APP as a formidable force in Imo politics.
As the congresses are set to commence this week, political observers are closely monitoring the process and its potential impact on the evolving political alignments in the state ahead of the 2027 governorship and legislative elections.
This development further underscores the APP’s determination to build robust structures at all levels, as it continues to assert its readiness to contest and win elections in Imo State.
