I Will Give Ideato Federal Constituency Seat A Winning Shot -Abazu
Imo State Commissioner for Special Duties, Dr. Chika Benson Abazu, has expressed his intention to pursue the Ideato Federal Constituency seat in the National Assembly with renewed determination.
Dr. Abazu, a surgeon, previously contested for this seat in 2023 under the All Progressives Congress (APC) but was defeated by Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, who was then representing the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Hon. Ugochinyere has since switched allegiance to the Action People’s Party (APP) and plans to seek re-election in 2027 under its banner.
During a press briefing in Owerri, the capital of Imo State, on Wednesday, January 21, Dr. Abazu announced his intention to run for the seat again, with the aim of securing victory this time.
Driven by his commitment to providing exceptional service to the federal constituency, Dr. Abazu criticized Hon. Ugochinyere for failing to deliver effective and commendable services to the constituency.
Instead, he accused the lawmaker of consistently criticizing the state Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, and exacerbating political tensions.
The surgeon expressed regret over the recent insecurity that affected the federal constituency, including the beheading of the Ideato North Council Chairman, whose body remains missing, and the assassination of the lawmaker’s uncle.
Dr. Abazu emphasized that such incidents must not be allowed to recur, underscoring the need for responsible citizens like himself to take leadership.
Dr. Abazu spoke highly of Governor Uzodimma, praising his exceptional performance and achievements.
He commended the Governor for delivering quality infrastructure and addressing the state’s security challenges during the initial phase of his administration.
He remarked, “I have observed him closely. He has defied expectations of those who anticipated a tenure focused on indulgence and leisure.”
“Six years later, the people of Imo are satisfied. Those who anticipated tangible results are pleased with the infrastructure developments.”
“We have a distinguished leader, respected on a global scale. He views Imo State as an integrated entity, rather than one divided along geopolitical lines.”
“Governor Uzodimma has aligned Imo with the central government, earning the title of ‘Governor General’ through his accomplishments.”
“The President and the nation recognized this, which led to his appointment as Director General of the Renewed Hope Agenda.”
“When the state faced insecurity, he identified it as politically motivated. Although initially met with skepticism, his assessment has proven accurate. He has imparted excellence to Imo, with remarkable road infrastructure.”
“We must celebrate him. Economic activities and investments are returning to the state. During my tenure in the Ministry of Transport, I initiated a program to establish Imo as a logistical hub, given its strategic location in relation to the South East and South South regions. Today, Imo Airport is the busiest airport.”
“His achievements span multiple sectors, positively impacting each one. Within two months, Imo State will have uninterrupted electricity.”
Dr. Abazu defended the Governor’s frequent visits to Abuja, explaining that these are efforts to secure interventions for the state.
He concluded by offering prayers for divine endorsement of whoever the Governor selects as his successor.
