Education Advocate Launches ‘Hear The Teacher Initiative’
The 2024 Maltina Teacher of the Year and Imo State champion, Mrs. Kalu Emmanuella Ngozi, has introduced the “Hear The Teacher Initiative,” a campaign aimed at advocating for and supporting teachers.
Mrs. Kalu announced that the initiative will take place from September 15 to October 31, 2026, with October 5 designated as the primary recognition day.
Throughout the campaign, her organization intends to identify five exemplary public secondary school teachers in Imo State whose contributions are noteworthy.
“We aim to highlight the teachers whose narratives often go unnoticed—those who consistently show up for their students despite challenging circumstances, those who extend their influence beyond the classroom, those who mentor, innovate, support struggling students, utilize personal resources, serve their school communities, or quietly effect change without seeking acknowledgment. These are the stories we wish to amplify,” she stated.
Mrs. Kalu asserted that rather than the customary “Happy Teacher’s Day” greetings typically extended to educators on World Teachers’ Day, it is essential for the public to recognize the dedication of teachers who work tirelessly to ensure that our children are educated and equipped to navigate life successfully.
The award-winning educator outlined the criteria for recognizing the five teachers in 2026, which will include commitment, contribution, and impact.
Mrs. Kalu emphasized that the campaign is driven by the private sector and expressed optimism that it will expand beyond its inaugural edition in subsequent years
