Court Frees ‘Toronto 13’
A Magistrate Court in Owerri, Imo State, on Wednesday November 5 released 13 individuals who had been detained and arraigned by the police in connection with a conflict between traders and operatives of the Imo State Environmental Transformation Commission (ENTRACO) at Toronto Junction, Uratta, Owerri North Local Government Area of the state.
These individuals were apprehended by the Tiger Base Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) shortly after the incident, which occurred about two weeks ago.
Presiding Magistrate, His Worship Adaha Ariche, dismissed the charges against the defendants due to their defective nature and subsequently ordered their release.
The freed individuals are Ifeanyichukwu Akasim, Chinasa Onyedikachi, Nkwocha Victory, Enyinnaya Nwoke, Iwu Chinwe, Emeka Ughamadu, and Darlington Abiri.
Others are, Ezimadu Ukaonu, Peter Ibe, Ugochukwu Chibuzor, Innocent Jacob, Charles Feese, and Chinenyenwa Okata.
They were charged with conspiracy and attempted murder, alleged to have occurred on October 24, 2025, at the Toronto Junction.
This act is said to be in violation of Section 516 of the Criminal Code Cap ‘C38’ Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004, as applicable to Imo State.
