Christian Leaders Back Trump To Rid Nigeria Of Terrorists

The Christian Council of Nigeria (CCN) has expressed its support for the United States’ decision to assist Nigeria in eradicating terrorism and ending the senseless violence within the country.

In a formal statement signed by Most Rev David Onuoha, President and Rt Rev Evans Onyemara, General Secretary, the CCN urged the Federal Government, under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to seize this opportunity to put an end to unlawful killings.

The Council emphasized that “it is no longer a time for debate over whether the ongoing situation constitutes genocide.

“Instead, it is an opportunity to support the United States in addressing the rampant terrorism and banditry affecting the nation. The intervention by the American government should be viewed as a positive development and an answer to the prayers of those who wish for peace and security in Nigeria.

“The anticipated American assistance should not be misinterpreted as an infringement on Nigeria’s sovereignty but rather as a welcomed aid in tackling the persistent insecurity that has plagued the country for nearly two decades”.

The CCN urged all individuals to set aside political, ethnic, and religious differences and unite to address this challenge decisively.

The statement further criticized the tendency to misinterpret President Trump’s statements and create unfounded conspiracy theories that detract from the primary issue.

“Instead, the focus should be on how Nigerian leaders can collaborate effectively with the United States to eliminate these threats, regardless of whether they originate domestically or internationally,” the Council added.

The CCN expressed regret over the apparent lack of political resolve to halt the ongoing violence, describing it as a serious reflection of the country’s declining moral, security, and governance standards.
