Attack On Wike And The $1m US Property
My dear Michael,
You know me from our secondary school days. Luckily, I was among privileged students from a fairly wealthy and educated family and have never experienced poverty in my life. After our secondary school in 1982, I was lucky to work with Nigerian Breweries Plc as the youngest District Sales Representative at the age of 20. I made fortune from commission on sales and built my first duplex in Owerri at the age of 22. I left the lucrative job traveled to the UK for my “A” levels at Holborn and made the best result of 1985 set. I returned to Nigeria at the death of my father and decided to shepherd my now five successful younger brothers. I attended University of Calabar and Nigeria Law School with a degree in Law, Bachelor of Law, Masters degree and currently a Ph.D Law programme, practiced in Lagos and joined politics. As an activist politician, I have been vocal and speak truth to power even, in the administrations I served. I have never met Wike in my life or spoken to him on phone. I do not think that money or political appointment is my target in politics because I am used to wealth from birth and have held several political appointments including but not limited to Federal Commissioner/Ombudsman in the Public Complaints Commission, PCC, Nigeria.
My opinions, therefore, are largely out of personal convictions and realities of the issue under discourse. I believe that as a lawyer, you will be in self denial to automatically condemn someone based on social media reports with unsubstantiated evidence. The US authorities have neither investigated the allegations nor confirmed same. So for you to join laymen to conclude that Wike is a thief brings into question your clear and fair understanding of the elementary cardinal principles of fair hearing and the presumption of innocence until found guilty under our criminal procedure law and the British law where you practice.
Lawyers talk the talk and provoke the thoughts. They live, eat and drink evidence and not swayed by emotional or political vituperations.
Finally, I still maintain that Wike has done well with his assignments and duties as Chairman, Chief of Staff, Minister, Governor and now Minister of FCT. I do not condone looting of public funds, however, it must be proved just as it has been proved that he is a brand and performer, hate him or like him despite his hubris nature. This is my take. I am sorry if my opinion doesn’t meet your expectations which doesn’t matter to me anyway, because the law of evidence matters to me at all material times and circumstances. Nevertheless, I noted with respect, your personal opinion, notwithstanding.
I come in peace.
Willie Amadi
