Amadi Applauds Court Verdict On APP’s Status, Tasks Members To Remain Focused
Dr. Chima Matthew Amadi, the leader and senatorial candidate of the Action Peoples Party (APP) for the Imo East District, has expressed approval of the judgement of the Federal High Court Owerri’s decision affirming the APP as a legitimately registered political party.
Dr. Amadi urged party members to remain resolute and composed despite a contrary ruling by Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court Abuja, which directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deregister the APP along with four other parties.
In a statement personally signed by Dr. Amadi, he highlighted the significance of the judgment by Justice I. N. Oweibo of the Federal High Court Owerri Division, which upheld prior judicial decisions regarding the APP’s status.
He recalled that on November 21, 2025, the Federal High Court, Owerri Division, dismissed a case filed by Blessing Elujiuba seeking the deregistration of the APP.
Elujiuba, dissatisfied with this outcome, proceeded to the Court of Appeal, Owerri Judicial Division, where the APP’s legal status and continued existence were reaffirmed in a decisive judgment delivered on March 30, 2026.
According to Dr. Amadi, these judgments have established a clear, consistent, and unequivocal judicial position that the APP remains a legitimate political party duly recognized under the Constitution and the Electoral Act.
He noted that members were surprised and concerned by reports of a subsequent judgment by Justice Lifu of the Federal High Court, Abuja, ordering the deregistration of the APP and four other political parties.
Dr. Amadi emphasized that while members continue to respect the judiciary and its essential role in upholding democracy, they cannot overlook Justice Lifu’s judgment, particularly as it appears inconsistent with previous judicial decisions on similar matters.
He expressed that they will not tolerate any attempts by political opportunists and anti-democratic forces to infiltrate, compromise, or manipulate the judiciary for partisan purposes.
He asserts that the judiciary remains one of the most revered institutions in a democracy and must not be reduced to a venue where political actors seek to achieve through judicial manipulation what they cannot accomplish through the democratic will of the people.
