Alex Ekubo Wrote My Hit Song ‘Johnny’, Yemi Alade Reveals

Afrobeat artist Yemi Alade has revealed that the late Nollywood actor Alex Ekubo was the writer behind her hit song “Johnny” and generously provided it to her without any charge.

She disclosed that Ekubo, who passed away at the age of 40, offered this invaluable support during a particularly challenging time in her music career. Alade shared that she was on the verge of abandoning her musical pursuits when the actor intervened.

She stated, “When I was nearly ready to give up on music, it was Alexx Ekubo who encouraged me and assured me that it is never too late to achieve success. He even wrote ‘Johnny,’ my first major hit song, and gave it to me without requesting any payment, even after the song became a success.

“Alexx was more than just a friend; he was like a brother to me. His memory will remain with me forever, and I still find it hard to accept that he is truly gone.”
