No Political Ambition Is Worth The Life Of Any Citizen, Says Kefas

From Godwin Agia, Jalingo

Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has issued a warning to political figures regarding the incitement of violence among the youth, emphasizing that no individual’s political aspirations should result in the loss of any citizen’s life.
In a statement made during the activities commemorating the 35th anniversary of Taraba on Friday, Governor Kefas, emphasized the importance of competing through ideas rather than weapons as political activities intensify.

He urged security agencies to maintain professionalism and impartiality, while encouraging traditional rulers to act as paternal figures for all. Additionally, he called upon political leaders to act responsibly and for the youth to reject manipulation by politicians.

Governor Kefas articulated his advocacy for “A United State of Taraba,” highlighting the necessity for collective unity across religious and ethnic divides to foster the state’s development.

“As political activities increase, let us compete with ideas. Let us campaign and disagree, but let us not recruit young people into violence. We must not weaponize ethnicity and religion. We must not introduce dangerous weapons into our communities. No one’s ambition is worth the blood of a Taraba citizen,” he stated.

He further noted that no religion, political party, or ethnic group can independently develop Taraba, and that no Local Government can thrive while another part of the state suffers.

“Our diversity should be our strength. It must never become a weapon against us. Of all the projects we are undertaking, none is more important than our unity,” he added.

Governor Kefas also addressed his transition from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), describing it as a strategic move aimed at enhancing Taraba’s engagement with the Federal Government.

“My decision was not an abandonment of those who elected me, nor of my principles. It was a strategic step designed to strengthen Taraba’s engagement with the Federal Government and expand development partnerships. Political parties are instruments through which leaders pursue service. I did not change my commitment to Taraba; I strengthened the platform from which I pursue that commitment,” he explained.

He assured that the state would collaborate constructively with President Bola Tinubu and the Federal Government while defending Taraba’s interests regarding security, resources, and welfare.

Additionally, Governor Kefas announced the launch of Taraba CARES, a six-month Social Investment and Poverty Relief Programme set to run from October 2026 to March 2027.

This programme will provide food assistance, household support, temporary jobs, agricultural inputs, health outreach, and support for vulnerable groups.

“Taraba CARES does not belong to the APC, Christians, Muslims, or any single tribe. It belongs to vulnerable Taraba citizens who genuinely need intervention. Selection must be based on verified need, transparency, and community accountability,” he concluded.
