Police Neutralize Suspected Killer Of Imo Monarch In Armed Confrontation

Operatives from the Special Tactics Squad of the Force Intelligence Department successfully neutralized Ojiogu Elumah Martin, also known as Acid, on Thursday, August 6.

Martin is believed to be the leader of the gang responsible for the murder of a traditional ruler in Imo State.

A statement issued by CSP Ani Iniedu, the Force Public Relations Officer, indicated that Martin succumbed to gunshot wounds sustained during an armed confrontation with police personnel.

Iniedu disclosed that a series of operations targeting gang members associated with Martin, linked to the murder of His Royal Highness Eze Paulinus Ekwueme, Ochia of Ochia Kingdom in the Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area, were conducted between August 2 and August 6.

The operations culminated in the early hours of August 6 when the operatives located and raided the suspect’s hideout.

During the encounter, the suspect engaged the operatives in a gun battle, resulting in injuries that ultimately led to his death.

The Force Public Relations Officer further revealed that an AK-47 rifle, three magazines, and 56 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition were recovered from the hideout.

He noted, “The suspect was identified as an alleged leader of the criminal syndicate linked to the attack on April 10, 2026, during which the monarch and five others were killed along the Asa/Awara Road in Ohaji/Egbema while returning to Owerri.

“Four suspects had previously been apprehended in connection with this incident, while two others reportedly perished during earlier confrontations with law enforcement.

“In light of the recent operation, efforts have been intensified to apprehend other fleeing members of the syndicate, ascertain the full extent of their involvement, and recover additional operational intelligence and evidence.

“The Nigeria Police Force remains steadfast in its commitment to ensuring that all individuals connected to this crime are brought to justice and that every effort is made to conclude the investigation comprehensively.”
