Court Adjourns Umuocha Avu/Imo Govt Land Case To June 2

The High Court in Owerri has postponed further proceedings in the land dispute case, designated as Suit No: HOW/83/2026, to June 2, 2026.

The case involves the Umuocha Avu Community in the Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State, the Imo State Government, Vertex Estate Nigeria Limited, and Engineer Christian M. Onyekachi.

The adjournment was granted following a request by the counsel representing the first, second, and third defendants, who sought additional time to review the case file thoroughly, as it was his initial appearance in court for this matter.

Presiding Judge, Justice E. N. Eke, expressed dissatisfaction regarding the absence of the fourth and fifth defendants, Vertex Estate Limited and Engineer Christian M. Onyekachi, despite being duly notified through a publication in Lead Express Newspaper.

Our judiciary correspondent reports that, as a result of the substituted service, Barrister Okoli appeared in court on behalf of the first, second, and third defendants.

The plaintiffs were present in court and were fully represented by their counsel, Barrister Chukwuma-Machukwu Ume SAN, along with his team of lawyers.

The case pertains to an alleged forceful intrusion into a substantial area of land owned by the residents of Umuocha Avu, located along the Port Harcourt-Owerri Expressway, by the Imo State Government and its representatives, Vertex Estate Limited
