Tinubu’s Aide Confirms APC Is Stoking Crisis In ADC
The Chief of Staff to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila, has confirmed reports alleging that the governing All Progressives Congress (APC) is playing a significant role in the turmoil affecting the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
In a widely circulated video, Mr. Gbajabiamila is observed advising Mr. Leke Abejide, a member of the House of Representatives and a member of the ADC, to refrain from leaving the party and instead remain to contribute to its potential downfall.
Mr. Gbajabiamila, who previously served as the Speaker of the House of Representatives, made these remarks during a birthday celebration held for the wife of Mr. Abejide.
In his statement, Mr. Gbajabiamila encouraged Mr. Abejide to stay within the opposition party and “disrupt” it from the inside.
He further urged Mr. Abejide to intensify the internal discord within the ADC, which has been experiencing leadership disputes and legal challenges.
Mr. Gbajabiamila specifically advised Mr. Abejide, stating, “Do not join the APC. Remain with the ADC and cause disruption. We appreciate your efforts. Do not forsake them.”
Mr. Gbajabiamila expressed his support for Mr. Abejide’s judicial endeavors to gain control over the party, adding, “Best wishes in court.”
The video has incited considerable criticism, with detractors accusing the APC administration of attempting to suppress opposition and establish a one-party state.
All major opposition parties are currently entangled in leadership crises, seemingly orchestrated by the APC.
The People’s Democratic Party and the Labour Party are both facing distinct leadership challenges.
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, is leading a faction of the PDP that has been judicially recognized as the legitimate PDP.
Wike is serving in the APC government while asserting his membership in the PDP.
In his native Rivers State, Wike is the leader of the APC, contrary to the APC’s constitution, which stipulates that the governor of the state, if an APC member, should be the party leader.
Within the Labour Party, an individual named Apapa was assigned to challenge Mr. Peter Obi, the 2023 Presidential candidate, until he departed from the party.
Meanwhile, Nyesom Wike has resorted to mocking those party members who chose to exit, criticizing them for their lack of courage to stay and address the challenges within the party.
