Police Deny Allegations Of Organ Trafficking, Extra-judicial Killings

The Imo State Police Command has expressed its concern regarding a social media report alleging that its Anti-Kidnapping Unit, known as the “Tiger Base,” is involved in activities such as torture, organ trafficking, and extrajudicial killings.

The Command categorically denied these allegations, labeling them as false, unsubstantiated, and designed to mislead the public.

In an official statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Henry Okoye, the Tiger Base is described as a legitimate tactical unit of the Nigeria Police Force, tasked with combating kidnapping, armed robbery, cultism, and other violent crimes.

DSP Okoye emphasized that Tiger Base is neither an unlawful detention facility nor a place of slaughter, and assured that all suspects are treated in accordance with the law.

Okoye further stated that the Unit has successfully dismantled several notorious kidnapping and armed robbery syndicates, thereby contributing to the enhanced peace and security currently enjoyed by the residents of Imo State.

He remarked: “There is no credible evidence supporting the allegations of torture, organ harvesting, or extrajudicial killings. These claims are viewed as part of a smear campaign orchestrated by criminal elements affected by ongoing security operations.

“The attempt to introduce ethnic sentiment into routine policing activities by targeting the Officer-in-Charge is condemned. The Nigeria Police Force remains a national institution where officers serve across all regions.

“Tiger Base operates in collaboration with other security agencies and community policing structures, ensuring accountability and transparency.

“To enhance oversight of the unit, the Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, has ordered the immediate establishment of a Human Rights Desk within the Anti-Kidnapping Unit to ensure transparency and safeguard the rights of all individuals handled by the unit.

“The Commissioner of Police urges the residents of Imo State to disregard the false claims and to direct legitimate complaints to the Complaints Response Unit (CRU), XSquad, or the Human Rights Desk Unit located at the Anti-Kidnapping Unit.

“Individuals disseminating false information with the intent to incite fear or undermine security efforts are cautioned to desist, as such actions contravene the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act 2015.”
