Elites Celebrate Ex-Deputy Speaker At 48
The city of Owerri, the capital of Imo State, was enlivened on Sunday as distinguished political leaders, industry captains, friends, and well-wishers from across Nigeria and beyond assembled to commemorate the birthday of Rt. Hon. Ugonna Ozurigbo, a former Deputy Speaker Imo State House of Assembly.
The event also included a special thanksgiving in honor of his wife, Barrister Ozurigbo Ijeoma, who was recently admitted to the Nigerian Bar.
The festivities commenced with a solemn Holy Mass at the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Aladinma, Owerri where prayers of gratitude and goodwill were offered for the couple’s lives, service, and notable accomplishments.
Speaking shortly after the mass, former lawmaker Hon. Lugard Osuji praised Rt. Hon. Ozurigbo Ugonna, describing him as “a man of exceptional dedication whose political career has been characterized by consistency, service, and loyalty to the people.”
He remarked, “Imo State takes pride in a son whose influence continues to create opportunities for many.”
Another dignitary, a senior government official from Abuja, observed that “Rt. Hon. Ozurigbo’s serene demeanor and strategic intellect have garnered respect across party lines.”
For post-thanksgiving service, attendees proceeded in a vibrant convoy to the Owerri residence of the Ozurigbos, where a grand reception awaited.
The atmosphere was festive and sophisticated, featuring music, cultural performances, goodwill messages, and heartfelt tributes.
The elite of Imo State’s political and business community were present, along with dignitaries who traveled from Abuja, Lagos, and even internationally to show their support for the celebrant and his family.
Commending Barrister Ijeoma Ozurigbo on her recent admittance to the Nigerian Bar, a senior advocate of Nigeria attending the event stated, “Mrs. Ozurigbo has exhibited resilience, focus, and academic excellence.
“Her call to the Bar is not merely a personal achievement but a beacon of hope for young women across the state.”
Another attendee remarked, “This celebration represents a dual honour — for leadership and intellectual achievement.”
The celebration culminated with the cutting of the birthday cake, renewed expressions of support, and an evening filled with elegance, gratitude, and joy.
In his address, Rt. Hon. Ozurigbo Ugonna expressed his appreciation to guests for their affection and solidarity, affirming that “the overwhelming goodwill is sincerely appreciated and will continue to inspire a deeper commitment to service.”
