Dr. Mbata Offers Tips For Healthy Living
Book Review
Title: Nuggets of Health
Author: Rev. Dr. Benaiah Chinaka Mbata
Reviewer: Apostle (Dr.) Christian Benjamin (FCS)
Let me use this opportunity to welcome everyone who has come here today to celebrate our father: Rev. Dr. Benaiah Chinaka Mbata.
I remember the first time I met him one on one, it was an assignment given to me, to deliver a message to him by the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), while I was then resident here in Owerri, about 2014.
I gave him a copy of one of my books titled: You cannot do it alone, you need people. While I was on my way out of his hospital, he asked his staff to call me back. He had quickly looked at my brief Bio, behind the book. From that time, I started a relationship with him. Even after I left Owerri in 2016, I have continued to keep in touch with him.
Today, I have the privilege of being the one selected to do this book presentation. I happen to be the last of all the editors that looked into this book, to get it to the point where it is today as a dream come true.
I think Dr. Mbata would have done us wrong if he did not produce this work after all that he has experienced in his practice that has spanned over five decades. Note: This man is a pioneer medical doctor produced by the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus (1975 class).
He founded Total Care Ministries, whose motto is “Caring for the whole man – with the three pillars of spirit, soul and body”. A belief that has driven his vision and ministry for these past 50 years. The topics covered in this book are common subjects encountered in general medicare from childhood to adulthood to middle age and then to old age. This book is both educative, and informative and is a testament of his commitment to that vision.
Here is what I have to say to every one present here today about this book:
This work is a treasure that every family should have in their house. It is a compilation on all kinds of health issues coming from a man who has practiced Medicine for more than 50 years.
It is carefully divided into four volumes, designed as a lifelong companion, offering practical guidance, reassurance, and inspiration for healthy living. It emphasises that health is more than the absence of illness—it is the harmony of body, mind, and spirit across every stage of life.
Volume 1 – General Health Tips
• Volume 1 shows how everyday choices—what we eat, drink, and do—shape our overall well-being.
It emphasises that good health begins with the little choices we make every day. This first volume offers simple, practical guidance on caring for the body and mind. From the importance of water, food, and vitamins to tips on cooking, hygiene, and natural remedies, it shows how daily habits shape our overall well-being. You will also find advice on skin and hair care, managing headaches, and keeping a positive attitude. With sections on safety, social life, and health promotion, this volume is a friendly reminder that healthy living is not complicated—it’s about balance, awareness, and consistency.
Volume 2 – Mother and Child Care
• Volume 2 focuses on mothers and children, highlighting the special care needed to support new life and growing families.
Motherhood and childhood are seasons filled with both joy and responsibility. This second volume gently walks readers through the journey—from fertility and pregnancy to breastfeeding, new-born care, and child development. It offers reassurance and practical advice for mothers, fathers, and caregivers on how to nurture both mother and baby. Topics like family planning, immunization, and managing common childhood concerns are included to help families make informed decisions. Sensitive areas such as abortion and sickle cell disorder are also addressed with care. Above all, this volume is about creating a safe, healthy foundation for mothers and their children to thrive.
Volume 3 – Adults
• Volume 3 addresses the unique challenges of adulthood, from fitness and nutrition to stress and illness prevention, helping readers take charge of their health.
Adulthood brings unique challenges, but also opportunities to build a strong, healthy life. This third volume focuses on fitness, exercise, diet, and lifestyle habits that keep adults in good shape. It looks at common concerns such as obesity, stress, substance use, and gender-specific health issues. At the same time, it doesn’t neglect the emotional side—motivation, managing pressure, and knowing when to seek medical help are highlighted. With practical sections on everything from dental care to allergies and malaria, this volume equips adults to take control of their health, prevent illness, and live fully.
Volume 4 – Elderly
• Volume 4 turns to the later years, offering wisdom and guidance for aging gracefully, managing chronic conditions, and preserving quality of life.
Growing older can be graceful, healthy, and fulfilling when the right care is taken. This final volume focuses on the health concerns that come with age—such as high blood pressure, arthritis, cancer risks, stroke, and menopause. It also highlights the importance of rest, relaxation, and emotional balance, with advice on managing stress, anxiety, and anger. Beyond physical health, mental well-being and lifestyle adjustments are emphasized as keys to enjoying later years. With practical insights on prevention and care, this volume encourages older adults to look after both body and mind, aiming not just for long life, but for quality of life.
Together, these volumes remind us that good health is a journey, not a destination. Whether you are nurturing a child, strengthening yourself as an adult, or embracing the gift of old age, each page is filled with practical tips and encouragement to live well, stay well, and thrive at every stage of life.
