Igbo in Canada Appeal For IPoB Leader ‘s Release

Igbo people resident in Canada have appealed to the Nigerian authorities to free the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, (IPoB) Nnamdi Kanu from the gulag.

Kanu was slammed into the dungeon of the Department of State Security DSS in 2021 after he was renditioned from Kenya.

President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Canada, Anicetus Nwaizundu expressed dismay at the prolonged detention of Nnamdi Kanu.

“We, the Igbo people living in Canada, stand united in calling upon the Federal Government of Nigeria to intervene compassionately in this matter and facilitate the unconditional release of our brother, Nnamdi Kanu,” Nwaizundu said in a statement..

He emphasized that Nnamdi Kanu has been suffering from serious health complications while in detention.

Nwaizundu said medical evaluation shows that Kanu’s continued detention poses grave risks to his life.

“We implore the Federal Government to act swiftly to release him from custody before it’s too late,” he appealed.

Kanu’s detention stems from his vocal stance against perceived marginalization and maltreatment of the Igbo people within Nigeria – a nation they rightfully belong to but face exclusion in various spheres.

Nwaizundu added; “The Igbo do not seek trouble; they yearn for recognition, equality, and peace as Nigerians. Yet, they are treated as second-class citizens in their own country”.
