Group Urges Parties To Allocate Reps Tickets To Ukwa West
The Ukwa Equity and Justice Group (UEJG) has urged political parties to allocate their tickets for the 2027 Ukwa East/Ukwa West House of Representatives election to candidates from the Ukwa West Local Government Area.
This appeal was articulated in a press statement dated October 27, 2025, and signed by Honourable C. Nwachi, Chairman, and O. S. Michael, Secretary.
The group contended that the Ukwa East Local Government Area has monopolized this position over the past two decades, whereas Ukwa West has held the seat for only eight years since the commencement of the current political dispensation.
It is significant to note that Ukwa West produced Honourable Chinonyerem Macebuh, who served in the House of Representatives from 1999 to 2007.
The late Honourable Macebuh voluntarily stepped down to allow Ukwa East to nominate Honourable Emeka Stanley in 2007.
Since then, Ukwa East has retained the position, electing Chief Uzoma Abonta and Chief Christian Nkwonta, the current incumbent.
The group emphasized that by 2027, Ukwa East will have held the seat for 20 years.
Consequently, the group appealed to the leaders of all political parties in Abia State to allocate the Ukwa East/West Federal Constituency tickets to Ukwa West in 2027.
The group asserted that the people of Ukwa West will only support parties that address this perceived imbalance in representation within the constituency.
It vowed to oppose any party that perpetuates this uneven representation by allocating its ticket elsewhere.
Additionally, the group appealed to the state governor, Dr. Alex Otti, to assist in ensuring that Ukwa West’s aspiration to produce the next representative is realized.
The group also urged leaders and stakeholders of the Ukwa West Local Government Area to unite behind a qualified native of the council area for the 2027 election.
Finally, the group affirmed that after eight years, the Ukwa East Local Government Area could once again produce a representative for the federal constituency.
