PDP Urges Uzodimma To Disclose Costs Of Flyover, Conference Centre Projects
The Imo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has urged the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration of Senator Hope Uzodimma to disclose the costs of flyover and conference centre projects.
The party asserted that the administration’s failure to disclose the costs of the Assumpta single-lane interchange flyover and the Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu Conference Centre is indicative of its propensity to conceal information from the public.
The PDP noted that under Uzodimma, the Public Procurement Bureau in the state has been rendered ineffective, while the Governor has assumed exclusive authority to appropriate, initiate, and procure government contracts, processes and costs of which are deliberately kept undisclosed, ostensibly to conceal alleged corruption.
In a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Lancelot Obiaku, the party posited that the opaqueness has rendered governance a private and secretive affair in the state.
The party described the fanfare surrounding the inauguration of these two projects as a blatant advertisement of the administration’s corruption, while Imo citizens, whose commonwealth is being recklessly exploited by the administration, are left to suffer the consequences.
It regretted that the Governor is squandering billions on a few new edifices in the city, while public schools and health facilities remain in a state of disrepair, key urban and rural roads are neglected, and citizens struggle daily to eke out a living.
The party acknowledged that the state is in dire need of standard public infrastructure, but questions why a government that has been in power for nearly six years has continued to ignore critical city roads and a myriad of death trap roads in rural communities, choosing instead to invest in secondary projects.
