2027: Campaign Outfit Alleges Conspiracy To Assassinate Amadi, APP Senatorial Candidate

The Mazi Chima Matthew Amadi Campaign Organization has reported the discovery of a conspiracy to assassinate its principal, Dr. Chima Matthew Amadi, the Action Peoples Party (APP) candidate for the Imo East Senatorial District.

This allegation was made during a press conference held on Tuesday at the organization’s headquarters located on Okigwe Road in Owerri.

Cajetan Duke, the chief press secretary to Dr. Amadi, addressed the media, emphasizing the need for public awareness, particularly among security agencies, regarding the potential threat to the life of their principal.

It is important to note that the campaign organization had previously raised concerns in September regarding a plot to militarize Ngor/Okpala, the ancestral council area of Dr. Amadi.

Duke indicated that they view the planned militarization as a significant threat to the peace, political tolerance, and democratic participation essential for credible elections.

He further explained that their current alarm is based on the emergence of credible information that heightens concerns about the safety of Dr. Amadi and the possibility of coordinated political violence against him.

Duke remarked that the conspirators might question how their plans were disclosed to the Amadi Campaign, but he stressed that their primary focus is on safeguarding human life and preserving the integrity of the country’s democracy.

The media aide expressed dismay that, despite previous warnings, the reported threats have not diminished.

He stated, “While those behind these alleged schemes may continue to wonder how information about their activities reaches us, our primary concern is not a contest of intelligence but the protection of human life and the preservation of our democracy. We are deeply concerned that, despite earlier warnings, the reported threats have not abated. The latest information available to us suggests a potential plot to intimidate, harm, or eliminate our principal in a desperate attempt to undermine his participation in the senatorial contest. We consider these concerns sufficiently serious to warrant the urgent attention of the appropriate security authorities.”

Duke assured the conspirators that Dr. Amadi will not abandon his senatorial ambitions due to threats against his safety. He noted that Dr. Amadi has garnered public support through his message of purposeful representation, sustained grassroots mobilization, and direct community engagement.

He also stated that the APP has emerged as a credible alternative in the light of widespread public dissatisfaction with certain aspects of the current administration’s performance and policies.

“Gburugburu has become a prominent figure in this alternative political movement. However, we must emphasize that political competition should be driven by ideas, verifiable records, policy proposals, and the confidence of the electorate, rather than intimidation, violence, or any attempts to eliminate an opponent from the democratic process.

Let us, therefore, state unequivocally that no threat, intimidation, or calculated attempt to instill fear will compel Mazi Chima Matthew Amadi to abandon his senatorial aspiration. His decision to seek elective office is a legitimate exercise of his constitutional and democratic rights, and he remains resolute in pursuing that ambition peacefully and within the law.

No individual, group, or political interest possesses the authority to determine his political future through coercion or threats to his personal safety. Our principal remains committed to presenting himself before the electorate and allowing the people of Owerri Zone to freely decide their political future,” he concluded.
