Youths Endorse Anyanwu As Preferred Candidate For Imo North Senate
Prominent youth organizations within the Okigwe Zone of Imo State have collectively endorsed Chief Longers Anyanwu as their chosen candidate for the Senatorial seat of the zone in the National Assembly.
Operating under the umbrella of the Okigwe Youth Bond Alliance, these youth organizations reached this decision during a summit held on Sunday in Owerri, the capital of Imo State.
The summit also resolved to support the Okigwe Zone in its ambition to produce the next governor of Imo State in 2027.
In his keynote address, Hon. Chinagorom Cyriacus, the Convener and Leader of the Okigwe Zone Youth Bond Alliance, stressed the importance of unity in addressing the numerous challenges facing the zone.
He emphasized that the political challenges confronting the Okigwe Zone can only be resolved if the zone’s leadership, particularly in the Senate, is entrusted to a credible and people-focused leader.
The Okigwe Youth Bond Alliance comprises several groups, including the Imo Youth Matrix Okigwe Zone, Imo Youth Parliament Okigwe Zone, Okigwe Progressive Change, and student organizations across the zone.
Participants reflected on the contributions of some of their distinguished sons and daughters who have previously served the zone in various political roles and appointments.
Special recognition was given to Chief Samuel Onunaka Mbakwe, the first civilian governor of Imo State, whose achievements as governor are considered too numerous to recount.
Other notable leaders from the zone, such as former Governor Ikedi Ohakim, Chief Tony Chukwu, and HRH Eze Oliver Ohanwe, were praised for their contributions to the development of the Okigwe Zone.
The youth organization also expressed gratitude to Governor Hope Uzodimma, describing him as a divinely appointed leader who has significantly contributed to the development of Okigwe Zone since assuming office.
They pledged their commitment to supporting all of the governor’s policies and programmes for the betterment of Imo State and the Okigwe Zone.
Hon. Sixtus Njoku proposed the motion for adopting the resolutions, which was seconded by Hon. Ugochukwu Ekwebelem and supported by Hon Iyke Anumaka.
A key resolution was the formal establishment of a unified youth alliance throughout the Okigwe Zone.
They reiterated their commitment to the charter of equity for the Okigwe Zone, which aims to ensure fairness and the zone’s prominence in the state’s political arrangements.
In endorsing Chief Longers Anyanwu (Ebubedike) as their preferred candidate for the Imo North Senatorial Zone in the 2027 general election, the youth organizations described him as an accomplished, seasoned politician, a compassionate individual, and a leader who understands the aspirations of his constituents.
They noted that Chief Longers Anyanwu has consistently excelled in his previous political roles and appointments within the zone, urging Okigwe Zone residents both at home and abroad to support his efforts to restore the zone’s former glory.
They appealed to Governor Uzodimma and other key political figures in the zone to heed the youth’s call and prioritize the best interests of the Okigwe Zone in both the Senate and governorship elections in 2027.
The Okigwe Youth Bond Alliance asserted that their interests remain paramount, dismissing any dissenting youth organizations as inconsequential and illegitimate.
They emphasized that this is the opportune moment for every legitimate youth in the Okigwe Zone to rise to the challenge and reject transactional politics.
The resolution was endorsed by leaders from the six local government areas that comprise the Okigwe Zone, namely Hon. Chinagorom Cyriacus (Obowo), Hon. Sixtus Njoku (Ehime Mbano), Hon. Amara Iwuchukwu (Onuimo), Hon. Iyke Anumaka (Isiala Mbano), Comrade Christian Udunna (Okigwe), and Hon. Uzoma Icheku (Ihitte Uboma).
Hon Nwabueze Odimba was among those that participated at the summit.
