Tinubu Will Lose Reelection Over Kanu’s Imprisonment -OYC

The Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC) has asserted that the incarceration of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB), will negatively impact President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s prospects for re-election.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, 12th May 2026, the National President of the OYC, Igboayaka O. Igboayaka, characterized as unrealistic the expectation that the votes from the South East region will favor Tinubu in 2027 while Kanu remains imprisoned.

He stated, “It is unrealistic to assume that the votes of the people from Old Eastern Nigeria, particularly the Ndigbo, will support Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 Presidential election while Nnamdi Kanu is still incarcerated.

“Nnamdi Kanu is regarded as a significant figure by the new Igbo generation, symbolizing Ndigbo’s quest for freedom and drawing comparisons to the biblical narrative of Moses and Joshua’s journey to the promised land. His continued imprisonment in relation to the 2027 general election implies that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s political career is jeopardized, effectively sealing his defeat in the 2027 poll.”

Igboayaka expressed regret that those responsible for Kanu’s abduction and rendition from Kenya to Nigeria are not being prosecuted, unlike those involved in the attempted kidnapping and failed abduction of Umaru Dikko.
