Police Apprehend Two Suspects In Connection With Inspector’s Murder

The Imo State Police Command has apprehended two individuals allegedly involved in the murder of a police inspector Henry Effiong at the residence of the Commissioner for Trade, Commerce and Investment, Hon. Rex Anunobi, in Owerri.

The incident transpired on Monday, September 14, 2026.

The suspects have been identified as Oliver Patrick, aged 31, and ThankGod Maurice, aged 25. They were reportedly arrested at the scene shortly after the authorities were notified of the incident.

This information was disclosed in a statement issued on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Imo State Command, DSP Okoye Henry.

According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police, CP Audu Garba Bosso, promptly directed a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the inspector’s death.

He also instructed the investigative team to identify all individuals involved and ensure that anyone found culpable faces prosecution in accordance with the law.

In response to the commissioner’s directive, the Deputy Commissioner of Police overseeing the State Criminal Investigations Department, along with the Divisional Police Officer of the New Owerri Division, visited the scene of the incident.

The police team conducted necessary examinations and recovered pertinent exhibits believed to be crucial to the investigation. These exhibits have been secured for further forensic and investigative analysis.

The remains of the deceased inspector were subsequently transferred to a mortuary, while the case was referred to the State Criminal Investigations Department for a more comprehensive investigation.

The command also reported that efforts are ongoing to apprehend additional suspects who are reportedly at large. The police did not provide further details regarding the identities of these additional suspects or the specific circumstances leading to the inspector’s death.

CP Bosso expressed condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased officer, characterizing the incident as a painful reminder of the risks and sacrifices police officers endure while performing their duties.

He assured the family that the command would diligently pursue the matter and strive to ensure that justice is served.

The commissioner further reassured residents of Imo State that the situation is under control and that appropriate security measures have been implemented to protect lives and property throughout the state.

He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and provide credible information that could assist the police in the ongoing investigation.

The command reiterated its commitment to maintaining public safety and bringing suspected perpetrators of criminal activities to justice.
