Mgbidi Ward 2 Wins Eugene Dibiagwu N50M Football Trophy
Mgbidi Ward 2 has been declared the overall winner of the fifty million Naira (N50m) Unity Football Competition, an event sponsored by the member representing Ohaji/Egbema/Oguta and Oru West Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Honorable Eugene Okechukwu Dibiagwu.
The final match, held on Saturday at the Izombe Central School field in Oguta Local Government Area, saw Mgbidi Ward 2 triumph over Oru Ward through a penalty shootout.
A total of 32 teams, representing the 33 Electoral Wards within the federal constituency, commenced the tournament on December 15, 2025 culminating in the final match between the two teams.
During the trophy presentation, Honorable Dibiagwu congratulated the victors on their achievement, noting that in a football competition, one team must inevitably emerge victorious.
He also extended his congratulations to the runners-up, Oru Ward, commending them for their commendable performance and encouraging them to strive harder in future competitions.
He expressed gratitude to all participating teams for their display of sportsmanship and acknowledged the organizing committee’s dedication to ensuring the competition’s success.
He assured that improvements would be made for the next tournament.
The final match was attended by distinguished personalities, including the Commissioners for Youths, Works, and Power, Honorable Mandala Ukaegbu, Barrister Ralph Nwosu, and Chief Nwabueze Oguchieti, respectively.
Also in attendance were the Technical Adviser for Heartland Football Club, Emmanuel Amuneke, as well as the Executive Chairmen of Oguta, Oru West, and Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Areas—Honorable Ifeanyi Nnani, Honorable Ikenna Adikibe, and Honorable Marcel Amadioha.
The event also saw the presence of the members representing Oguta and Ohaji/Egbema State Constituencies, Honorable Gilbert Nwosu and Honorable Uzoma Osuoha (Buguma), among others.
