My Victory is Beneficial For Our Rapidly Developing Democracy-Okorocha

Owelle Rochas Okorocha, the former governor of Imo State, has stated that the court ruling awarding him the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket for the Imo West Senatorial election is advantageous for the country’s rapidly developing democracy.

In a statement released by his media advisor, Sam Onwuemeodo, Okorocha expressed appreciation for the enthusiastic celebration among his constituents following the court’s decision, emphasizing that he does not take their support for granted.

“This judgment represents a significant victory for the nation’s judiciary. It is a triumph for our rapidly developing democracy. It is an outstanding victory for the nation’s Constitution, as amended. It is a remarkable victory for all advocates of justice and opponents of wrongdoing. It is a notable victory for posterity and history. Ultimately, it is a victory for the people of Imo State in general, and specifically for the constituents of the Imo West Senatorial District,” Okorocha stated.

Okorocha had sought judicial intervention regarding the outcome of the APC primary for the Imo West Senatorial District.

He also requested the court to determine the constitutionality of Governor Uzodimma’s candidacy for the 2027 election, questioning whether it is appropriate for him to seek a Senate position, another paid office, while his tenure as the elected Executive Governor of Imo State concludes in January 2028.

Okorocha expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for fostering an environment that enables the Judiciary and other institutions to function effectively, contributing to the nation’s rapid development and growth.

He also acknowledged the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for their exceptional regard and respect for party members, allowing them to pursue their legitimate objectives and constitutional rights without hindrance.

The former governor further commended the people of Imo West Senatorial District for their prayers, moral support, and emotional encouragement. Okorocha served as the governor of Imo State from 2011 to 2019 and subsequently represented the Imo West Senatorial District from 2019 to 2023.
