Kidnappers Demand Indian Hemp From Victims’ Families In Imo
In Imo State, kidnappers have begun to demand Indian hemp in addition to ransom payments from the families of their victims.
These criminals also request food supplies to sustain themselves and their captives until the ransom is paid.
Investigations reveal that the Ejemekwuru/Etekwuru/Izombe Road has become a prominent route for these kidnappers to operate.
Reports indicate that individuals, particularly travelers, are seized almost daily along this road.
It was noted that Prince Wisdom Nwauwa and 15 others were abducted along this route last month, with his family allegedly paying a ransom of N10 million for his release.
Residents are reportedly living in a state of fear, as kidnapping activities have severely disrupted both economic and social activities in the region.
Individuals can no longer safely access their farms or operate their businesses in local markets.
An indigene informed our correspondent that families of kidnapped individuals are forced to deliver their ransom payments at a designated location in the Amakaohia-Ubi Community within the neighbouring Owerri West Local Government Area.
The indigene expressed concern regarding the apparent inaction of security agencies in addressing the ongoing kidnapping incidents in the area.
