Armed Thugs Vandalize YPP, APP Offices In Imo

In the wake of Imo State Governor Senator Hope Uzodimma’s declaration of Imo as a ‘one-party state,’ armed thugs have engaged in a destructive rampage, vandalizing the secretariat complexes of two opposition parties, the Young Progressive Party (YPP) and the Action Peoples Party (APP) within the state.

Reports indicate that the assailants targeted the offices of these parties between 3:00 AM and 4:00 AM on Sunday, July 19, 2026.

The vandals destroyed party signage and attempted to forcefully enter the offices; however, their efforts were thwarted by the timely alarm raised by the security personnel, prompting their retreat.

In response to this incident, Mr. Mike Anyanwu, the state Chairman of the YPP, expressed astonishment at the political intolerance that has emerged in the state under the administration of the All Progressives Congress led by Senator Hope Uzodimma.

He commented that the destruction of the party’s signage appears to be politically motivated but urged party members to remain calm, assuring them that the party is addressing the situation.

Anyanwu also revealed that the party has filed a complaint with the police and is currently awaiting the agency’s findings.

Also speaking, Mr. Steve Nnadi, the Spokesperson for the Action Peoples Party (APP), confirmed the occurrence of an attack at the APP Secretariat.
He stated that the party’s billboards and campaign banners were vandalized by armed individuals reportedly led by an adviser to the state governor.

It is noteworthy that armed assailants also targeted members of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) during a meeting held at the Umuoyima Youth Hall in Owerri on Tuesday.

The perpetrators vandalized plastic chairs and public address equipment utilized during the meeting, in addition to inflicting bodily harm on attendees.
