Tinubu Has Imposed Functional Poverty On Nigerians -IMSU Lecturer

The administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has effectively imposed functional poverty on Nigerians, undermining the value of workers’ salaries.

Professor Onyebuchim Nworgu, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies at Imo State University, Owerri, articulated this perspective during his 2026 birthday celebration held in Owerri.

Professor Nworgu remarked, “As lecturers, we are not expected to be wealthy, yet we continue to work diligently. One day, we shall attain prosperity. However, Tinubu’s administration has resulted in functional poverty; one is engaged in work, yet it appears as though one is not.”

The dean, in a video shared on Facebook also expressed gratitude to those who contributed approximately 60 percent of the funds utilized for organizing the birthday event.

“One notable aspect of my birthday anniversary is that individuals, some of whom I do not even know, send me financial contributions. I merely provide the platform, and people respond with generosity. There was an instance three years ago when Kelechi, during one of my birthday celebrations, ordered suya after the attendees had dined and encouraged them to remain longer.”

The lecturer conveyed his appreciation to God for the affection shown to him by many, including those he does not personally know.

Attendees at the event, including Dr. Ebere Uzoukwa, Special Assistant to the Abia State Governor on Public Communication, and Mr. Chidiebube Okeoma, a journalist and founder of the Stand for Humanity Foundation, congratulated him and praised his impactful contributions to society. Prayers were offered for the professor’s longevity.
