Tinubu Sacks Edun, Dangiwa As Ministers

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has dismissed two of his ministers, namely Wale Edun, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, and Arch Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, the Minister of Housing and Urban Development.

Their removal was communicated in a memorandum signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume.

Mr. Edun has been instructed to transfer his responsibilities to Mr. Taiwo Oyedele, who will assume the role of Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy.

Mr. Oyedele previously served as a Minister of State within the ministry.

Additionally, Mr. Muttaqha Rabe Darma has been appointed as the ministerial nominee and minister-designate for the Housing and Urban Development Ministry.

The memorandum further instructed Dangiwa to hand over his duties to the Minister of State within the ministry.

The memorandum specified that all processes of handing over and taking over should be finalized by the close of business on Thursday, April 23, 2026.

In clarifying the President’s decision, Akume stated, “These changes are aimed at strengthening cohesion, synergy in governance, and achieving a more impactful delivery on the economy to Nigerians through the Renewed Hope Agenda.”

He further explained that the President, in approving the cabinet reshuffle, has fully exercised his authority as granted by Sections 147 and 148 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (1999, as amended).

The President expressed gratitude to the outgoing ministers for their contributions to the nation and extended his best wishes for their future endeavors.

Akume also noted that the President assured all cabinet members that “the process of reinvigoration shall be continuous.”
