Imo Youths Adopt Ugochukwu For Governor
The youth of Imo State, under the umbrella of the Imo Citizens Community Development Initiatives, Youth Wing, unanimously endorsed Chief Chris Uche Angunus Ugochukwu for the governorship position of Imo State in 2027 during a meeting held on Tuesday in Owerri, the capital of Imo State.
In his opening remarks, Comrade Clinton Amaechi, President of the Imo Citizens Community Development Initiatives, Youth Wing, emphasized the need for the state to elect a well-exposed, well-bred, and educated individual who carries no baggage to lead the people.
Chief Chris Uche Agunus Ugochukwu, who hails from Ezinihitte Mbaise Local Government Area of the state, currently resides in Switzerland.
Comrade Amaechi expressed regret over the poor governance experienced in Imo State and Nigeria, highlighting that a few individuals have monopolized the commonwealth, leaving others in abject poverty.
He described Nigeria as a place of suffering, asserting that God did not intend for the people to endure the current levels of poverty and squalor.
According to him, God, in His infinite mercy, placed crude oil, gold, and other mineral deposits under Nigerian soil, which unfortunately have been exploited by a few elites to their advantage, to the detriment of the majority.
He noted that since after the era of Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe and Alhaji Tafawa Balewa, Nigerian youths have been held hostage, pointing out that at 40 years of age, certain Nigerian youths are still dependent on their parents.
He proposed that to create a more meaningful life for many Nigerians, especially the people of Imo, the current leadership should be replaced with well-meaning individuals like Chief Ugochukwu.
Comrade Amaechi lamented the infrastructural deficiencies, particularly in Imo schools and the dilapidated roads in the oil and gas-rich Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area and throughout the state.
He emphasized that in more developed societies, the council area should be a focal point of development.
The President announced that Chief Ugochukwu would contest for the Imo governorship seat under the African Democratic Party (ADP) and encouraged all attendees to register with the party and obtain their Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC) to exercise their voting rights in the upcoming general elections.
Attendees at the meeting cautioned against disappointment and betrayal, which they had experienced with past governors and politicians they had supported at the polls.
They identified a particular former Governor of the state whose betrayal still resonates with them, asserting that they would not tolerate such betrayal from Chief Ugochukwu, whom they are determined to support.
Okechukwu Soronnadi from Owerri West Local Government Area attested to Chief Ugochukwu’s integrity, assuring everyone that he would not disappoint if given the mandate to serve the people.
Additionally, Chief Office Okezie from Ohaji Egbema Local Government Area urged the people of Ohaji Egbema, Owerri, and Mbaise to unite in their efforts to end bad governance in the state.
Comrade Clinton Amaechi proposed the motion for the adoption of Chief Ugochukwu, which received overwhelming approval.
