Nwodo: Leaders Migrating To APC Have No Justification

Chief Okwesilieze Nwodo, a former governor of Anambra State, has said there is no justifiable reason for leaders to migrate to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

During an appearance on Arise TV on Monday, Chief Nwodo suggested that these leaders must have ulterior motives for aligning themselves with the ruling party.

He criticized the policies and programs of the APC, asserting that they have not positively impacted the populace.

Chief Nwodo further explained that those affiliated with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) intend to engage with the APC administration, led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, regarding its policies and pledges, and compare them with the solutions proposed by the former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi.

He stated, “There is no justification for the governors to migrate to the APC. It is not founded on ideology or performance. Nevertheless, it is their inalienable right to make such a move. Every politician has reasons for their actions. We in the ADC wish to engage the government on its policies and promises and contrast them with Peter Obi’s solutions.”

Regarding the endorsement of President Tinubu for a second term by South East APC leaders over the weekend, Chief Nwodo remarked that such endorsement does not bind the people of the South East.

He noted that support for Mr. Peter Obi nationwide is currently gaining even more momentum than the backing he received in 2023.

According to Chief Nwodo, Obi has successfully persuaded Nigerians that he possesses the capabilities to improve their circumstances.

He expressed regret that despite the substantial support for Peter Obi in 2023, another candidate was declared the winner.

The former governor asserted that such a situation would not recur in 2027.

He further commented that the APC is not a widely favored party in the South East and expressed skepticism regarding the majority of the populace voting for its presidential candidate in 2027.

“Any governor who performs well in the South East will likely secure reelection, but in the presidential poll, I doubt the people will vote for an APC president. The APC has not established a strong presence in the South East. The party does not facilitate matters for the people. The South East leaders who endorsed Tinubu for a second term were not speaking on behalf of the general public.”

Chief Nwodo concluded by stating that Nigerians are resolute in their determination to vote and defend their votes in the upcoming elections.

The APC now has 29 governors following recent defections by governors of Enugu, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Bayelsa, and Plateau states.
