Police Nab 43-Year-Old Man For Allegedly Defiling 7-Year-Old Niece

The police in Imo State have apprehended a 43-year-old individual, Kelechi Nwosu, on allegations of defiling his seven-year-old niece, whose identity remains confidential.

The arrest was facilitated by the human rights organization, Stand For Humanity Foundation, which reported that the suspect has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Owerri, the state capital.

Chidiebube Okeoma, the president of the organization, stated that the suspect will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Okeoma mentioned that his organization worked in collaboration with the suspect’s relatives from Umuobi Umukam village in the Obollo community of Isiala Mbano Local Government Area to apprehend the suspect and hand him over to the police at the Isiala Mbano Divisional Police headquarters.

The suspect was then transferred to the State CID in Owerri.

Medical examinations conducted on Tuesday at the Police clinic in Owerri confirmed that the child had been abused.

According to Okeoma, the minor’s statements to both the organization and the police revealed that the suspect assaulted her on two separate occasions.

Henry Okoye, the police spokesperson for the state, indicated that the suspect will be formally charged once the police investigations are concluded.

It is worth noting that Stand For Humanity Foundation recently assisted in the arrest of a 38-year-old woman, Juliet Igwe, from Uruala in the Ideato North LGA of the state.

She was accused of using candlelight flames to burn the private area of her five-year-old housemaid and immersing the child’s hands in boiling water, resulting in severe injuries.

The suspect was arraigned last week before a magistrate in Owerri and was remanded in Owerri Correctional Center pending the Director of Public Prosecution’s report on February 5, 2026.

The court concurred with the prosecutor that the offense could result in a life imprisonment sentence if the suspect is convicted.
