Rep Cautions Against Disbandment Of Tiger Base

Hon Chike John Okafor, the representative for Okigwe South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has expressed caution against the calls to disband the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Imo State Police Command, commonly known as Tiger Base.

Hon Okafor also expressed his disapproval of the numerous media attacks aimed at pressuring authorities to dissolve the unit.

In an essay released to journalists on Wednesday, the lawmaker accused the opposition of orchestrating the sustained media trial of the outfit.

He argued that dissolving the Tiger Base would be akin to discarding the entire structure due to the actions of a few.

While acknowledging that certain personnel within the security outfit may have exceeded their authority during the execution of their duties, the legislator contended that holding such individuals accountable would be a more appropriate response than advocating for the complete disbandment of the unit.

He also expressed disapproval of the attempts to implicate the state Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, for the alleged misconduct of the unit.

According to him, the governor demonstrated leadership by mobilizing the federal and state security apparatuses to ensure that non-state actors did not dominate the state.

According to him, the state currently benefits from stability, with normalcy reinstated in its markets, religious centers flourishing once more, social life revitalized, and a visibly affirmed confidence in investment-grade opportunities.

Hon Okafor asserted that these positive developments are neither coincidental nor illusory.

Furthermore, he remarked that individuals advocating for the governor’s indictment due to alleged misconduct by a few personnel within the security unit have inadvertently revealed their political motives rather than engaging in principled advocacy..
