A total of 65 students will participate in the inaugural convocation ceremony of Claretian University of Nigeria (CUN), located in Maryland Nekede, Imo State, scheduled for Saturday, November 15, 2025.
Among these graduates, six students achieved first-class honors in their respective programmes.
The Vice Chancellor of the university, Rev. Fr. Prof. Whence Madu, made this disclosure on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, during a press briefing held at the University’s Senate Chambers.
Prof. Madu revealed that the faith-based institution commenced its academic programmes in 2021 with an initial enrollment of 71 students.
Currently, the university, which was registered as the 88th privately-owned tertiary institution in the country, boasts a student population of approximately 1,000.
Prof. Madu emphasized that the university’s structure is designed to promote the holistic development of students, focusing on both character and academic learning.
As such, the university predominantly offers residential facilities, with only a small percentage of students residing off-campus.
He highlighted that Claretian University of Nigeria offers quality education at a cost that is considered affordable compared to similar privately-owned universities in the country.
He underscored that their tuition fees are designed to be accessible, particularly for students from middle-class backgrounds, to facilitate their pursuit of quality education.
Fr. Madu noted that housing the majority of students on campus allows for better monitoring and development, particularly as most students are still in their formative years.
He identified challenges facing the young university, to include shortages in infrastructure and environmental concerns, and extended an invitation to private developers to seize the opportunity to construct additional hostels on the university campus under favorable terms.
National Newsbreak learnt that the university’s pre-convocation lecture is scheduled for Friday, November 14, 2025.
The lecture will be delivered by Prof. Abubakar Adamu Rasheed, formerly the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission, and is entitled “Education, Values And Public Good: Reimagining Private Universities As Partners In National Development”.
