Step Down For Obi To Save Nigeria, Osuagwu Tells Atiku
A prominent figure within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Imo State, High Chief Dr. Collins Osuagwu, has issued a warning to former Vice President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, urging him to abandon his 2027 presidential aspirations in order to prevent potential adverse outcomes for Nigeria.
In an open letter addressed to Atiku and dated April 19, 2026, Dr. Osuagwu, a significant financial supporter of the party prior to last year’s coalition arrangements, advised Atiku to relinquish his ambition and assume the role of National Leader of the party.
This would facilitate the realization of the majority of Nigerians’ desire to see Mr. Peter Obi become the next president of the country.
Dr. Osuagwu further stated that Atiku, who has been pursuing the presidency unsuccessfully for thirty-three years and will turn eighty in November, would secure a lasting legacy if he were to step aside for Mr. Obi.
Mr. Obi is widely perceived as the rightful winner of the 2023 presidential election, which was allegedly compromised by a questionable claim of a system glitch by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The gubernatorial aspirant, who also serves as the Chairman of Zeus Marina Oil and Gas Limited, concluded by asserting that if Atiku fails to seize this opportunity to step down in favour of the younger generation, he may be held accountable by Nigerians for any consequences.
These consequences could include the continued tenure of the Bola Tinubu-led All Progressives Congress (APC) beyond 2027, a prospect that many are opposing due to the hardships imposed by the ruling party.
