Araraume: Nobody Is Being Coerced To Defect To APC

A notable figure within the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Ifeanyi Araraume, has asserted that individuals from opposition parties who are leaving their affiliations to join the governing APC are doing so of their own accord.

Senator Araraume, who served as the representative for the Imo North Senatorial District from 1999 to 2007, emphasized that no one, including governors, has been coerced or cajoled into joining the APC.

During an interactive session with newsmen on Saturday, January 17, at his residence in Isiebu, Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State, Senator Araraume stated that those defecting to the APC have done so in response to the impressive performance of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He commended President Tinubu for his boldness and political determination in removing the fuel subsidy and addressing exchange rate issues.

According to Senator Araraume, the removal of the fuel subsidy has resulted in surplus funds being available to all levels of government for developmental projects.

He encouraged Nigerians to seek clarification from their state governors regarding the utilization of the substantial allocations at their disposal.

Furthermore, he praised President Tinubu for the equitable distribution of federal allocations to various levels of government and for initiating projects such as the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway.

Senator Araraume also expressed appreciation for President Tinubu’s reforms across different economic sectors and the establishment of development commissions for certain regions.

He advocated for the support of the South East populace for the president to secure a second term and for the APC.

The senator urged individuals to register and obtain their Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs) and to participate in the ongoing e-registration in order to become members of the APC.

Senator Araraume further stated that fairness dictates that either the Owerri or Okigwe Zone should be considered for producing Governor Hope Uzodimma’s successor in 2028.

He dismissed the possibility of the Orlu Zone seeking the Imo governorship position in 2027, as the zone will have governed the state for 24 years by the conclusion of Governor Uzodimma’s second term in early 2028.

Senator Araraume neither confirmed nor denied his interest in the Imo Governorship seat, stating that it is ultimately God who will determine his next political move at the appropriate time.

He emphasized that his current priority is to rally support for the APC and all its candidates for various political positions at both the state and national levels.
