Critics Query Uzodimma’s Move To Site Varsity At Omuma

The decision of Imo State Governor Senator Hope Uzodimma to establish an additional state-owned university in Omuma, Oru East Local Government Area, has sparked controversy in Imo State.

Critics are questioning the rationale behind concentrating development projects in one area.

Notably, this move follows closely after the relocation of the Orlu Campus of Imo State Polytechnic to Omuma, a decision that has also been met with skepticism.

Sources indicate that the former premises of the relocated polytechnic were allegedly allocated to the Orlu Catholic Diocese without the consent of the host community, leading to disputes over land ownership.

The affected community has taken the state government and the Catholic Church to court, citing an attempt to usurp their ancestral land.

According to local leaders, including Dr. Uche Nnaji, Governor Uzodinma’s actions suggest a pattern of prioritizing his community over broader development goals.

Nnaji expressed concerns about the implications of such localized development strategies for future governance.

The controversy has reignited debates about equitable distribution of resources and development opportunities in the state.

It is noteworthy that Gov Uzodimma relocated Imo State Polytechnic to Omuma upon assumption of office.

The governor wants to relocate Imo State Polytechnic to the neighbouring Awo-Omamma also in Oru East Local Government Area while he establishes Imo State University of Science and Innovation at the Imo State Polytechnic Omuma site.
