The Imo State House of Assembly has recalled two of its members, Okey Onyekanma and Ekene Nnodumele, who were suspended from the parliament 18 months ago.
Onyekanma, a former deputy speaker and Nnodumele, a former minority leader of the House were recalled during plenary on Thursday in Owerri, the state capital.
They were suspended on November 8, 2021, the same day a former speaker, Paul Emezim was impeached.
The decision to recall the suspended lawmakers was based on a report of an adhoc committee headed by the majority leader and member representing Owerri West State Constituency, Kanayo Onyemaechi.
The lifting of the 18- month long suspension was listed in the order for the day’s proceedings which was announced by the Clerk of the parliament, Chinelo Emeghara.
The House also pardoned Emeziem, commuting his impeachment as speaker to resignation.
A similar gesture was extended to Chiji Collins who was speaker before Emeziem.
Recall that the state legislature has had a large turnover of speakers, electing four speakers in three years
