The Imo State Police Command says its operatives have neutralized a member of a robbery syndicate during a gun duel in Nekede in Owerri West Local Government Area of the state.

The command added that it also recovered one locally-made pistol, one machete, one mask, charms, four laptops, three power banks, one IPhone, three pairs of canvass, two bags, clothes and a pair of palm slippers from the surrounding of the syndicate.

The spokesman of the police in the state, Henry Okoye disclosed that operatives of the Nekede Police Divisional Headquarters swiftly mobilized to the scene after a distress call on Tuesday, April 18.

According to him, the police were alerted of an armed robbery operation at Sokotext Lodge along Amaeze Road by Federal Polytechnic Nekede back gate.

Okoye said on sighting the police, the hoodlums opened fire resulting in a gun duel between them and the policemen.

He added that the police overpowered the malefactors with their superior fire power leading to the demise of one of the suspects while his partners-in-crime fled the scene into the surrounding bushes.

Okoye said a manhunt has been launched to fish out the fleeing suspects and bring them to book while the corpse of the neutralized suspect had been deposited at the morgue
