Evangelist Joseph Ikechukwu Ukaegbu has emerged the 2023 flag bearer of the Labour Party for the November 11, 2023 governorship election in Imo State.
Ukaegbu won the governorship primary election conducted by the National Working Committee of the party under the Acting chairmanship of Alhaji Lamidi Bashiru Apapa.
Declaring the result of the primary election held on Sunday in Owerri, the Chairman of the Electoral Panel, Mohammadu Alkali Ibrahim said that Ukaegbu was unanimously voted by over 250 delegates who participated in the exercise.
The electoral panel had on Saturday conducted verification and accreditation of the delegates, one delegate from each of the 305 electoral wards across the 27 LGAs of the state.
He described Ukaegbu’s unopposed emergence as an eloquent testimony of his commitment to the party and acceptance by members and delegates of the party .
In his acceptance speech, the 2019 governorship candidate of the party expressed gratitude to the state and national leaderships of the party as well as delegates for giving him the party’s 2023 governorship ticket.
He promised not to betray the confidence reposed in him by Imolites by winning the governorship seat of the state in order to save the people.
He pledged to tackle insecurity bedeviling the state by creating employment opportunities to engage the youths.
Meanwhile, the just reinstated chairman of the party in the state, Nze Cyril Ikechukwu Akujobi, has vowed to deliver Ukaegbu in the Nov. 11 governorship election, describing him as competent reliable and responsible gentleman.
Recall that the National Working Committee of the party led by Lamidi Bashiru Apapa, on the 13th of April 2023, dissolved the Imo State Executive Committee of the party and reinstated the sacked chairman, Nze Akujobi and members of his executive committee.
