The Commissioner of Police (CP), in Imo State, Mohammed Ahmed Barde has ordered a manhunt for the manufacturer of locally-made guns in the state.
This followed the arrest of a 32-year-old Oguzie Chukwudi, a native of Amasa Ngugo in Ikeduru Local Government Area of the state.
Chukwudi was arrested along Port Harcourt-Owerri Road in Owerri on Wednesday, March 5 during a stop-and-search operation while being in unlawful possession of three locally-made revolver pistols, 15 rounds of live cartridges, hard drugs and other stolen items.
The CP in a statement signed by the spokesman of the police in the state, Henry Okoye said preliminary investigation showed that Chukwudi is a leader of a notorious armed robbery syndicate who has been on the police wanted list.
Barde further disclosed that Chukwudi had confessed to some of the crimes perpetrated by his gang, adding that effort is on top gear to track down members of his gang who are presently at large as well as the local manufacturer of the guns.
The Commissioner of Police added that Chukwdi will be arraigned in court upon completion of investigation.
He lauded the operatives of the command who carried out the operation for their pro-activeness and urged them not to relent in mopping up illicit arms in the hands of criminal elements in the state.
The CP appealed to residents of the state to report suspicious persons and activities to law enforcement agents.
