A human rights group, Protect The Weak International Foundation has called on the Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma to sack his aide, Chinasa Nwaneri.
The group also demanded the arrest and prosecution of Nwaneri’s henchman simply known as Tapey who in the company of some persons allegedly killed an indigene of Ebonyi State, Ndubuisi Ogbonda on Friday, March 31, 2023.
President of the group, Chinonso Uba claimed that Tapey and his boys have continued to terrorize residents of the state particularly Okada riders along the Aba Road axis of the state capital.
According to him, Tapey and his boys stabbed 27-years-old Ndubisi Ogbonda on Friday along Tetlow Road, Owerri.
He further disclosed that they also stabbed another young man who alighted from a vehicle to enquire about why they stabbed Ogbonda.
Uba said while Ogbonda died on the spot, the other young man gave up the ghost at the Federal Medical Centre, Owerri where he was rushed to.
Ubah said; “We at the Protect The Weak International Foundation are calling on the Imo state Governor Hope Uzodimma to relieve Chinasa Nwaneri of his position with immediate effect to save his government from further opprobrium due to the shameful actions of this man since this government came to be.
“Secondly we call upon the Commissioner of Police to immediately arrest and prosecute Chinasa Nwaneri and his boys for the alleged killing of Ndubuisi Ogbonda.
“We are giving the police 48 hours to do the lawful or we shall approach the court.
“We also demand for the immediate release of Okada riders who were arrested for protesting the killing of their colleague. They broke no law by protesting the gruesome killing of their member when they carried a coffin to show their grief.
“These arrested Okada riders are at the State Police Command
“We frown at the continuous intimidation of citizens by the officials of Imo State government. We frown at the reckless behaviour of officials of Imo State government and their insensitivity to the plight of the poor masses in the state.”
“As we await further actions from the police, we pledge to ensure strict adherence to the fundamental human rights of all and sundry irrespective of status.”
Uba assured residents of the state that his group will get to the root of the matter.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Henry Okoye offered to give full details about the matter soon.
