Unknown gunmen on Monday morning shot dead four security operatives in Imo State.
Two of the security operatives have been identified to be personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) while the identities of two others are yet to be established.
The murder incident occurred at EkeIsu Market in Obiangwu Community in the Ngor Okpala Local Government Area of the state.
Our correspondent gathered that the slain security operatives were attacked in the early hours of Monday while on patrol of the area.
A source said that the NSCDC personnel were riding in a vehicle when they were ambushed by their attackers.
He informed that security operatives had taken over the community and arrested some youths of the community.
The source added that the corpses of the victims have been evacuated to the Federal Medical Centre, Owerri.
The source said; ” Three operatives of the NSCDC were killed last night at EkeIsu Market in Obiangwu Community in the Ngor Okpala LGA of Imo State.
“They were ambushed while in their vehicle. Their bodies have not been evacuated as we speak. Soliders have taken over the community arresting every youth in sight.”
When contacted, the spokesperson for the police in the state, Henry Okoye confirmed the murder.
He said that security operatives had moved into the community and restored normalcy.
Also speaking, the Public Relations Officer of the state command of the NSCDC, Lowell Chimeziri disclosed that the gunmen ambushed and killed four security operatives two of who were personnel of the NSCDC.
He said the identities of the two other slain security operatives are yet to be established.
Chimeziri said; “You know we are also in charge of National Physical Assets and Infrastructure.
“It was a joint team that was on patrol of the area at about 1:00am. You know hoodlums operate at that period of the day. They were ambushed and killed.
“We have identified two of the slain officers to be of the NSCDC. I don’t know yet the identities of the other two.
“Their corpses have been moved to the Federal Medical Centre Owerri”.
