The Taraba State chapter of the People’s Democratic Partyarty, PDP, on Friday swore-In Abubakar Bawa as the party’s new chairman.
He is to complete the teure of Kefas Agbu, who had been elected governor of the state..
The oath of office was administered on Bawa as new PDP state Chairman by a Chief Magistrate in Jalingo at the party’s secretariat.
Speaking on the occasion, the Vice Chairman PDP North-East, Emmanuel Bovoa represented by the Zonal Secretary PDP North-East, Jauro Kabir Bappa said Bawa’s emergence was to complete the tenure of Agbu Kefas who has been elected governor of the state.
According to him, “if a state chairman of the party resigns his position, his deputy takes over in acting capacity for a period of six months.
“Thereafter, the State Executive Committee of the party will convene a meeting at the instance of the leader of the party in the state to take a decision on whether the acting capacity should complete the tenure or a new chairman should emerge.
He maintained that the nomination of Bawa was in line with the constitution of the People’s Democratic Party PDP 2017 as amended.
In his acceptance speech the new Chairman, Bawa, said PDP has been entrenched in Taraba State.
Bawa added that PDP performance in the last election has shown that the party has come to stay in the state.
He assured the state executive committee members of the party that they will work as a family towards moving the party to greater heights.
