The Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), Prof Nnenna Oti is the toast of the moment following her refusal to doctor the March 18 Governorship poll in Abia State.
Encomiums have been pouring in for the VC for insisting on accurate counting of the votes and crediting of same to candidates.
The wife of the Ondo State governor, Chief Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu opened the floodgate of encomiums, describing Prof. Oti as a lioness who knows the way, the truth and life.
The First Lady wrote on her facebook page; “Professor Nnenna Oti, nnwannem. Chai! I wuu agu nwanyi. Professor wey sabi”.
Similarly, Ikenna Egejuru commenting on Mrs. Akeredolu’s post also hailed Prof Oti as a woman of character which real education inculcated in her.
According to Egejuru, the FUTO VC is an icon of professorship in the country.
For Olamide Falana, Prof Oti is a woman of courage and heroine of the country’s democracy.
Ngozi Igbo simply described Prof Oti as the new face of the country’s democracy and a suitable role model for women and girls.
She expressed her profound gratitude to the FUTO VC for raising the standard of women in the country.
Lizzy Akpan took it a step further by likening the First Lady to Prof Oti.
She submitted that the two women are great women of courage, who do not mind whose ox is gored especially when the right thing must be done.
Stella Ada Eke enjoined other women to emulate Prof. Oti, saying that the VC has proven that women could deliver whenever called upon to do so.
The social media have been abuzz with deluge of laudation for Prof Oti for the singular act of turning down all entreaties to subvert the political will of the people of Abia State.
The people had trooped out en masse on March 18 to elect Dr. Alex Chioma Oti, governorship candidate of the Labour Party (LP).
Oti won in 10 local government areas of the state and was leading with more than 90,000 votes when hoodlums reportedly invaded the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Obingwa Local Government Area and carted away electoral materials.
Our correspondent gathered that the invasion made the INEC to withhold the announcement of results from the local government area and ordering for review before final announcement of results.
Before the review, supporters of the LP took to the streets, requesting the INEC to announce the party’s candidate winner with or without the Obingwa result.
The supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party added drama to the matter by also requesting the INEC to announce the Obingwa result and declare their own candidate, Ahiwe winner.
Prior to the final announcement of results, Prof Oti had said the pastor and mother in her would not allow her to subvert the will of Abians.
