The new Chairman of Labour Party (LP) in Imo State, Festus Onyekwulisi has promised a level-playing field for the army of governorship aspirants that are vying on its platform.
Onyekwulisi made the promise on Friday at the state secretariat of the party in Owerri, the state capital while addressing newsmen.
The Chairman said the primary poll would be credible to the extent that whoever wins would win gallantly and whoever loses would lose gallantly to back the winner to clinch the governorship diadem.
Onyekwulisi stated that the party was poised to recover Imo State from the grips of the All Progressives Congress (APC) government of Senator Hope Uzodimma.
According to him, the Labour Party has been entrenched in the state to the extent that the people are yearning for the party to take over the reins of power
He assured that the LP would unseat Governor Uzodimma in the November 11, 2023 governorship poll in the state.
Onyekwulisi said, “We have begun the process of recovering Imo State. The first step is to hold a transparent primary election. In all, transparency will be our watchword. Let me say it again that we are nobody’s stooge, and that the Labour Party in Imo State is not factionalized.
“We are committed to a new Imo State. Labour Party administration will bring dividends of democracy to the Imo people. We are men and women of proven integrity. We have modelled ourselves after Peter Obi. We are here to do what is right. I am nobody’s stooge. I’m only a stooge to my conscience.”
Onyekwulisi said the party was not unmindful of the fact that opposition parties would want to plant moles in the party, but that his administration would put a mechanism in place to weed them out.
The new executive of the LP in Imo State comprises Festus Onyekwulisi (Chairman), Capt Christian Ibekwe(Vice Chairman), Innocent Ekweariri (Vice Chairman), Nze Stanley Nnadozie(Vice Chairman), Lilian Ukoha (Secretary), Roland Obiyor (Assistant Secretary), Dr. Onuoha Callistus Chikodi (Organizing Secretary), Barr. China Agugbue (Legal Adviser), Godwin Chimezie (Publicity Secretary), Nwachukwu Kingsley Financial Secretary) and Mrs Ego Ibe (Woman Leader).
No fewer than 10 persons have bought the governorship nomination and expression of interest forms from the party.
